From 27 to 29 January 2020, H.R.H. the Hereditary Grand Duke of Luxembourg will lead an economic mission to the UAE, in the presence of  H.E. Mr Etienne Schneider, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Economy and Minister of Health and of H.E. Mr Pierre Gramegna, Minister of Finance. A large Luxembourg business delegation will  be part of the economic mission.

The mission is organised by the Ministry of the Economy, in close cooperation with the Luxembourg Embassy, the Luxembourg Trade and Investment Office in Abu Dhabi and the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce.

The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is a world-renowned international business location and a secure and reliable hub for cross-border activities in a number of fields, including finance, space, logistics, ICT, life sciences and clean technologies. The country is situated at the heart of several major EU markets. Global players of all sizes use Luxembourg as a gateway to Europe and beyond, benefiting from its excellent access to worldwide markets.

Programme

The economic mission to the United Arab Emirates will comprise:

  • A Luxembourg-Dubai Business Forum will take place at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce. During this seminar the high-level delegation will make presentations on the economic relationships between Luxembourg and the UAE and the assets of Luxembourg for business. Businesses will have the opportunity to meet with key decision makers and network with interested business people. Tailor-made business-to-business meetings will be arranged on request between Luxembourg companies and representatives from interested local companies.
  • A visit to Arab Health 2020 (January 27th-30th), the largest medical trade fair in the region, attracting more than 4.200 exhibitors. The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg will have for the second time a national pavilion at the fair.
  • A Space investor forum, as well as parallel programmes for the health and logistics sectors.
  • A workshop on the participation of Luxembourg in EXPO 2020 DUBAI. The economic mission to the UAE will help raise awareness of Luxembourg’s pavilion and its many events to be organised during Expo 2020. It will be the 24th time that Luxembourg participates in a world exposition.

World Exposition 2020

From 20 October 2020 until 10 April 2021, the World Exposition 2020 will take place in Dubai. Over 25 million visits are expected and some 200 countries and international organisations will present their ideas and solutions relating to the exposition's chosen theme “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”. The theme of this Expo is at the heart of Luxembourg’s values and vision for the future of collaborating with others in order to move forward and build the world of tomorrow.

Laying the first foundations

In April 2018, Ms Maggy Nagel, President of GIE Expo Dubai 2020 and Commissioner-General of the Luxembourg pavilion, Najeeb Mohammed Al-Ali, the Executive Director of the Expo 2020 Bureau and Étienne Schneider, the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Economy broke ground to launch the building of the future Luxembourg pavilion. The construction is now well under way.
